Superman: The Secret Years #2 - Frank Miller cover

Superman: The Secret Years #2, 1985 - Frank Miller's second cover lacks the usual detail, perhaps as a homage to the hero's simpler 1940s rendition. The guns that Superman is twists out of shape are not immediately obvious, but reinforced by the bullet holes in the background. Generally, the art is a little too hurried and loosely executed. Note the milk carton on the lower right, suggesting Superman's wholesomeness perhaps? Other artists in this issue include Curt Swan and Kurt Schaffenberger. This is number 2 of 4 Superman: The Secret Years issues with Miller art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Miller or Superman the Secret Years issues. See also this blog's Frank Miller checklist.

I actually like it a lot. The sparseness of it really appeals to me. Like I said in an earlier post for Secret Years #1, I really enjoy the inking that Miller was doing immediately after 'Ronin'.
