Shanna the She-Devil #1 - Jim Steranko cover + 1st appearance

Jim Steranko

Shanna the She-Devil v1 #1, 1972 - Sickened by man's cruelty to animals, prominent veterinarian Dr. Shanna O' Hara relocates to a large preserve in Africa. She protects them in her own way, accompanied by two faithful leopards. Jim Steranko creates a suitably dynamic cover for this premiere, depicting the leopard-skin clad Shanna the She-Devil surprising a trio of hunters.

The angle of the heroine's body and accompanying spear run perpendicular to the vine, forming a strong x-shaped layout. Herr jungle cats poise to strike while conveniently filling in the negative spaces. This Carole Seuling and Steve Gerber story was drawn by George Tuska and Vince Colletta.
