Our Fighting Forces #159 - Jack Kirby art & cover

 Jack Kirby
Our Fighting Forces v1 #159 featuring the Losers, 1975 - A soldier hooks up with the Losers after surviving a Nazi onslaught. A former Olympic sprinter, Henry Jones runs into his old German competitor on the battlefield. Jack Kirby clearly pays homage to track star Jessie Owens, even referencing the 1936 Berlin Olympics. While the cover art is crudely illustrated, the story art is visually engaging. Most exceptional is the double page spread of "Mile-a-Minute" Jones bursting through a crowd of Nazis (pages 2-3). The artist himself talks about this story in a Kirby Museum video. This is number 9 of 12 Our Fighting Forces issues with Kirby art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Kirby or Our Fighting Forces issues. See also this blog's Kirby checklist.
