X-men v1 #50, 1968 - An electronic stimulator awakens Lorna Dane's latent powers, transforming her into Polaris. Jim Steranko's pencils breathe new life into the series with his daring page compositions. Some figures are mildly distorted and mis-proportioned, but largely offset by his widely varying angles. The two-page spread at the start and a later splash page are but two of the many exceptional scenes. Steranko's cover is even better: a stunning portrayal of Polaris crackling with energy as the X-men cower beneath her. Other artists in this issue include Arnold Roth and John Verpoorten. This is 2 of 3 X-men issues by Steranko. /// key 1st appearance, 1st cover Lorna Dane as Polaris / original page
