Four Color Comics v2 #907

Sugarfoot v1 / Four Color v2 #907 (#1), 1958 - The ABC television western appears in comic book form for the first time. The lead story, "Brannigan’s Boots", adapts the pilot episode of the same name. Alex Toth's spontaneous-looking drawing style seems well-suited for westerns, especially the outdoor scenes. Close-ups of character faces are emotive and clearly defined. A handful of panels are uncomfortably minimal, but are offset by more superb renderings on pages 1, 9, 13 and 16 of the first story and pages 4-6 of the second. This is 1 of 2 Sugarfoot issues by Toth. /// key first issue
