X-men v1 #55, 1969 - Barry Smith's third cover is marginally better than the others in the series. His inexperience shows in the figure drawings and attempts at foreshortening. The layout, centered around a main figure, is commonly used. Still, combined with the intense color palette and textural background, Smith's artwork is eye-catching. Other artists in this issue include Don Heck, Arnold Roth, Sam Grainger and Vince Colletta.
