Jim Steranko |
7. Incredible Hulk Special v1 #1, 1968 - The custom-drawn masthead crumbles under its own massive weight while the Hulk strains to keep it in place. Jim Steranko deviates from the standard logo, creating his own forceful typography. Curiously absent from the cover are the Inhumans, who appear in name only. Steranko's innovative cover for this first issue is among the most influential works of the silver age. This issue also includes artwork by Marie Severin, Syd Shores, Frank Giacoia and John Verpoorten. This is 1 of 1 Incredible Hulk Special issues by Steranko. /// key 1st issue / Top 10 Steranko comics / original cover

Note the head was redrawn by Marie Severin. Some adverts for this book showed Steranko's original drawing in which the Hulk's face was shown with a much more savage expression.
