Man of War Comics v1 #1, 1941 - Introducing a bevy of new characters, this first issue features Man of War (a sword-wielding patriot that keeps Mexico from invading Los Angeles), Vapo-Man (a hero who can change to gaseous form) and the Sentinel (a fighting spirit from colonial America). More forgettable characters include Fire Man, the Liberty Guards and Dave Doolittle, the Dizzy Detective. Art by Sam Gilman, Bob Lubbers, George Wilson, Martin Filchock and Art Helfant.
