Classic Comics v1 #1, 1943 - Beginning a decades-long run, this series was the first to adapt classic literature in comic book form. Theses condensed versions varied wildly in their quality of art and writing, not uncommon during the golden age. Up to the hilt with action, Alexander Dumas' Three Musketeers seems an apt choice to this first issue. Classic Comics would become Classics Illustrated from #35 on. To keep its relevancy, most of the early issues would be rewritten and redrawn in the 1960s. Cover and story art by Malcolm Kildale. /// key 1st issue- - - - - - - - - -
