Adventures Into The Unknown #154 |
Adventures Into The Unknown v1 #154, 1965 - Murdered by the Mafia, detective Steve Flint's spirit returns to Earth with newfound powers. As Nemesis, he fights crime using super strength, invulnerability, flight and transparency. There's some similarity to the origin of the Spectre, who DC would resurrect a year later. Richard Hughes' (as Shane O' Shea) story was drawn by Kurt Schaffenberger (ghosting as Pete Costanza). Other artists in this issue includes Bob Jenney and John Forte. Cover by Schaffenberger. /// key 1st appearance, 1st cover, 1st origin Nemesis

Pete Costanza and Kurt Schaffenberger are two different artists. Both worked for Fawcett on Captain Marvel, and both worked at DC for Mort Weisinger (Costanza on Jimmy Olsen, Schaffenberger on Lois Lane). Schaffenberger worked at American Comics Group using the pen name Lou Wahl.
I commented about this yesterday. According to the GCD, the cover is by Schaffenberger but is signed as Costanza. The art on the story itself is by Constanza, who is a different person than Schaffenberger. They each have biographies on wikipedia.
Corrected across all ACG issues. Thank you for the info.
