Gomer Pyle v1 #1, 1966 - Initially appearing in tv's Mayberry RFD, this goofy auto mechanic was played by comedic actor Jim Nabors. The character later joined the Marines and spun off into his own show in 1964. Paired with an irate Sergeant Carter (actor Frank Sutton), Private Pyle's misadventures carried over into a comic book series. This first issue was drawn by comics veteran Warren Tufts.
