G.I. Combat v1 #83, 1960 - Jerry Grandenetti's cover depicts the fear, pressure and intensity of a young soldier hidden within the foliage. Does he see the enemy or is he merely on watch? G.I. Combat had a regiment of covers like this one during the silver age. Absent of blurbs or dialogue, the mood and subject matter are completely reliant on the artwork. Grandenetti's washes also make this monochromatic approach all the more special.
