Tom Strong v1 #1, 1999 - Raised by his parents in an isolation chamber on a remote exotic island, Tom Strong finally emerges to become Millenium City's champion of truth and justice. Assisting him are his wife Dhalua, daughter Tesla, Solomon the gorilla and the steam powered mechanical aide Pneuman. All make their first appearances in this premiere issue. Writer Alan Moore is clearly inspired by Jules Verne, Edgar Rice Burroughs and other early science fiction authors. Chris Sprouse's artwork for this origin story is excellent, as is Alex Ross' hard hitting cover. - - - - - - - - - -
