Giant-size Invaders v1 #1, 1975 - Set during the early days of World War II, circumstances bring the Sub-Mariner, Human Torch, Toro, Captain America and Bucky together to fight Nazis. Master Man, a German super-soldier, proves to be more than a match for the heroes. Though Avengers #71 is sometimes cited as the Invaders' first appearance, Toro and Bucky are absent from that story. Whereas in this issue, Winston Churchill not only requests their formation as a team but gives them their name. The Invaders next appear in their own self-titled series.
