Justice League of America v1 #1, 1960 - After first appearing in Brave and the Bold #28, the JLA begins its own self-titled series. An alien tyrant named Despero challenges the Flash to a twisted game of chess. His teammates, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash, Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter ultimately pay the consequences. Like earlier Justice League of America issues, both Batman and Superman are conspicuously absent from the cover. This Gardner Fox story was drawn by Mike Sekowsky and Bernard Sachs.
