Bill Ward |
Heart Throbs v1 #1, 1949 - Along with Baker, Bill Ward's best work lives within this genre. Like many romance covers, the woman is the focal point. The couple's embrace occurs on a ship's moonlit deck. His shirt reveals him as a sailor, while her attire is more exotic and almost magical. Ward's detail on the flowing lace gives the scene an ethereal quality. Sadly, his interior story does not meet the same standards. Other artists in this first issue include Paul Gustavson. /// key 1st issue / select Ward cover
