The Walking Dead v1 #1, 2003 - Recovering from a gunshot wound, deputy Rick Grimes wakes up from his hospital bed and finds a devastating new world overrun by zombies. This first issue started it all, as writer Robert Kirkman and artist Tony Moore set the standard for the zombie-apocalypse genre. Rick, Shane, Morgan Jones and his son Duane all make their first appearances. The AMC television show that followed only expanded its reach and popularity. /// key 1st issue
