X-O Man O War v1 #1, 1992 - Expanding upon the origin in X-O Man O War #0 (published a year later), this first issue follows Aric's arrival on present day Earth. Barry Smith illustrates this sci-fi tale with ample enthusiasm. The last few pages are the best by far, as X-O confronts his Spider Alien adversaries. The only downside? Bob Layton's inks tame much of the drawings, losing the usual visceral quality of Smith's approach. Cover by Layton.
