Detective Comics v1 #27, 1939 - With this brief story, Bob Kane introduces a new caped hero that terrorizes the criminals of Gotham City. Commissioner Gordon appears for the first time, opening the investigation of a murdered man. In this key first appearance of the Batman, no superpowers are evident but his ingenuity and fighting skills come to the fore. Interestingly, the hero's secret identity as Bruce Wayne is only revealed at the end. Other features within the same issue include The Spy, Slam Bradley and the Crimson Avenger.
