All Star Comics #8 |
All Star Comics v1 #8, 1941 - Members of the Justice Society of America regale each other with their exploits, not uncommon among the early issues of this series. In a separate story, Wonder Woman makes her very first appearance. When Steve Trevor's plane crashes onto Paradise Island, the resident Amazons nurture him back to health. Their origin and history is briefly explained, along with the introduction of Queen Hippolyte and her daughter Diana. A competition is ordered to determine which woman will take Captain Trevor back to America. Naturally, Diana's win comes to the surprise of her own mother. Note that Wonder Woman is DC's first female superhero. Written by Charles Moulton (William Marston) and drawn by Harry Peter, this story was later reprinted in Wonder Woman #196. Wonder Woman would soon debut her own series. /// key 1st appearance, 1st origin Diana Prince as Wonder Woman, Landmark issue (1st DC female superhero)
