Fantastic Four v1 #52, 1966 - Lured to the African nation of Wakanda by the gift of an advanced flying vehicle, the foursome soon find themselves the prey of its ruling hunter.
Jack Kirby and Stan Lee make history by introducing the
Black Panther, the first black superhero in comics. On the cover, an oversized moon conveniently serves as a contrast against T'Challa's costume. Inside, Kirby revels in juxtaposing traditional African attire with futuristic technology, featured on his largest panels. The Panther's image is darker in his first appearance, but would soon evolve due to his popularity (including losing the attached cape). This silver age Stan Lee story was later reprinted in
Marvel's Greatest Comics #39. This is 52 of 116
Fantastic Four issues by
Kirby. Black Panther would later debut his own
series. ///
