Challengers of the Unknown #1 - Jack Kirby art & cover + 1st issue

Jack Kirby
Challengers of the Unknown v1 #1, 1958 - Following four appearances in Showcase (#6, 7, 11, 12) the adventures of Ace, Red, Rocky and Prof continue in their own self-titled series. In the first tale, a scientist accidentally brings destructive creatures to Earth, while in the second, an alien child captures the Challengers for his own amusement. Jack Kirby's artwork is imaginative and compelling, especially in his design of otherworldly beings. Inker Marvin Stein has his own style, but leaves enough of the pencils to remain relevant. To me, the second story has a more interesting plot and sequence of images. Kirby's cover is an improved variation of an interior splash. This is 1 of 8 Challengers of the Unknown issues by Kirby. /// key 1st issue
