Murderous Gangsters v1 #1, 1951 - Avon Comics often used the inside front cover as a preview, and this one is no exception. Wally Wood creates a dreamy montage of crime scenes, each representing one of the interior stories (in this case featuring the notorious "Pretty Boy" Floyd and "Legs" Diamond). The artist expertly divides areas of light and shade, emphasizing the contrasts. As violent as his illustrations can be, there's also a beautifully ethereal quality to them.
