Avengers v1 #19, 1965 - The swashbuckling Swordsman makes his debut by entering Avengers headquarters uninvited. A subsequent battle with the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver reveal his intentions to join the group. On the cover, Jack Kirby draws a character braced for action. Background details are impressive, despite the inaccurate perspective. Don Heck appears to have drawn the four smaller portraits in a similar style, but the overall layout would have benefited from Kirby's completion. This silver age Stan Lee story was drawn by Dick Ayers. This is 19 of 38 Avengers issues by Kirby. /// key 1st appearance, 1st cover Swordsman

This is a strange one and may well have been the initial concept drawing of the Swordsman by Kirby, with vignettes plus background added by Heck to make the cover.
