Wally Wood |
Eerie v1 #2, 1951 - Ghoulish figures accompany a female prisoner through an underground passage.
Wally Wood brings several horrific elements together in one disturbing cover. Equally frightening is his interior work, comprised of the inside front cover and the lead story. In "The Thing from the Sea", a bully murders a fellow sailor and steals his girlfriend to boot. Some of the pages and panels are crudely drawn but display the artist's future potential. Wood's fine detailing is evident, especially on the gorier scenes and subjects. Inkers Sid Check and Joe Orlando are mostly faithful to his pencils. This story was later reprinted in
Eerie #16 and the cover was re-used for >
Eerie v2 #9. Other artists in this golden age comic include Manny Stallman, H.C. Kiefer and Louis Ravielli. This is 1 of 3
Eerie issues by
Wood.
