Batman v1 #217, 1969 - Like many DC covers of the late 1960s, this one employs a shocking, if unlikely, scenario. Batman turns his back on the Batcave, seemingly forever, leaving his tearful butler Alfred to seal up the contents. The readers' view from above adds perspective to an artfully composed layout.
