Strange Tales #166 - Jim Steranko art

Strange Tales #166
Strange Tales v1 #166 featuring Nick Fury & Doctor Strange, 1968 - The Yellow Claw makes his escape, but not before Nick Fury can tail him with a hi-tech glider suit. Jim Steranko's opening splash presents a view from below, as Fury descends with cigar in hand. The first few pages are ably drawn, but the artwork excels on pages 6-7, as the main character reaches a diabolically designed labyrinth. Creative and visually arresting, Steranko experiments with panel shapes, orientations and graphic devices. Fury's full length portrait on page 10 would later be used as the cover icon on his own self-titled series. Other artists in this issue include Dan Adkins. This is 16 of 18 Strange Tales issues by Steranko. /// Steranko gallery
