Mister Miracle v1 #9, 1972 - The experiences of a young Scott Free are chronicled here, not long before his escape to Earth. His mentor Himon is introduced, along with his first encounter with Big Barda. Metron of the New Gods also plays a part in these events. Like previous issues, Jack Kirby delivers two splash pages and a dramatic double page spread. The bleak industrial landscape of Apokolips is depicted in all its harshness and futility. Tightly rendered throughout, Kirby deviates only in page 19 panel 5, loosening facial expressions to convey shock and horror. This is 9 of 18 Mister Miracle issues by Kirby. /// key 1st appearance Himon / Kirby gallery
