Understanding Comics (The Invisible Art) by Scott McCloud book - Written and laid out in graphic novel format, this excellent book delves into not just the mechanics of the art form but what makes it unique from other mediums. The author clearly articulates what I've always appreciated about comics but never examined at this level. It's a real eye-opener and must for aficionados of comic book art. Scott McCloud is also the creator, writer and artist of Zot.
