Comet #1 - Alex Nino art & cover + 1st issue

Alex Nino
The Comet v1 #1, 1983 - Red Circle Comics Group revives several 1940s superhero characters during the 1980s. Carmine Infantino, a preeminent DC silver age artist and editor, steps in to pencil this short-lived series. While not incompatible, Alex Nino's inking is fairly passive and subordinate to the layouts. More often than not, his pen- and brushwork results in a more distinctive story, which makes this issue all the more disappointing. One saving grace is the cover to this first issue, also pencilled by Infantino but wildly textured and delineated by Nino. Like many wrap-around covers, the composition is much stronger when viewed in its entirety. This issue also includes artwork by Rudy Nebres. This is 1 of 2 Comet issues by Nino. /// key 1st issue
