Rex Allen v1 #29, 1958 - Only the second time Russ Manning drew the lead feature in this title, "Battle Canyon" is one of the artist's better efforts. An outlaw gang uses military practices to make daring thefts, while Rex Allen searches for their elusive hideout. Manning's opening splash is not as compelling as the previous issue, but many other pages compensate. His scenes of rocky topography and cascading waterfalls serve as stunning backdrops for the characters.
