Battlefront #5 |
Battlefront v1 #5, 1956 - An overzealous lieutenant takes over a tank command, leading his men into enemy territory.
Alex Toth's visual storytelling has little excitement but compensates with clarity and careful design. Panels are numerous and on the smaller side, but to the artist's credit the scenes inside the tank are appropriately crowded and claustrophobic. The inks, perhaps by John Celardo, are passively applied but generally adequate. Toth's subtlety is a stark contrast to the cover's over-the-top violence. Other artists in this golden age comic include Jerry Grandenetti, Mort Drucker, George Tuska, Ross Andru and Mike Esposito. Cover by John Severin and Bill Elder. This is 1 of 1
