(Walt Disney's) Donald Duck v1 / Four Color Comics v2 #147, 1947 - An accidental purchase of a bomber plane lands Donald and his nephews in Volcanovia, a fictitious country in South America. As the name suggests, the land is rife with volcanoes large and small. While humorous and clever, the artwork suffers from monotonous layouts. In scenes where they fly through Andean-like peaks (pages 6-9), Carl Barks draws his best panels. That aside, modeling and details are minimal throughout the story. Barks' skills continue to evolve and improve. This story was later reprinted in Donald Duck #256. This is 5 of 43 Donald Duck issues by Barks.
