Thunda (Thun'da) (King of the Congo) v1 #1, 1952 - One the most sought-after Frank Frazetta issues, this first appearance of Thunda is the only comic he drew in its entirety. An obvious copy of Tarzan, there are few minor differences. Sadly, the cover and some inside panels are embarrassingly offensive due to racial stereotyping. From a purely artistic standpoint, Frazetta's work excels with its skillful drawings and fluid brushwork. Prehistoric landscapes, giant reptiles, cavemen and more are drawn with youthful enthusiasm. Of his four stories, the last is a touch less impressive than the others. All tales (including his origin) were reprinted in Thun'da Tales #1 using enhanced colors and minus the original cover.- - - - - - - - - -
