Astonishing Tales #2
Astonishing Tales v1 #2 featuring Ka-Zar and Dr. Doom, 1970 - Ka-Zar arrives in New York City, his savagery standing out among the populace. Jack Kirby does a nice job with the opening splash, emphasizing the contrast in a bustling hotel lobby. Inexplicably, Ka-Zar's face has been modified by another artist on pages 4-5, breaking consistency. In the second feature, Dr. Doom's android runs amok in his own country of Latveria. Wally Wood's efforts are initially stiff, but improves as the story progresses. His action scenes attract the most interest, especially the Doomsman's head-on collision with a tank (page 5). This story was later reprinted in the Marvel Comics Art of Wally Wood. Other artists in this bronze age comic include John Buscema (cover). This is 2 of 2 Astonishing Tales issues by Kirby and 2 of 4 Astonishing Tales issues by Wood
