Four Color Comics v2 #790
The Wings of Eagles / Four Color Comics v2 #790, 1957 - Adapting the MGM movie of the same name, this issue chronicles the career of Frank Mead. The former aviator is portrayed by John Wayne, whose photo is prominently displayed on the cover. Alex Toth excels on this military story, depicting World War Two ships, planes and aircraft carriers with convincing accuracy. Each page is carefully designed to maximize clarity in storytelling. Each panel is drawn in meticulous care and detail, using heavy blacks and shadows for dramatic effect (see interior page below). Toth delivers one of his best efforts of the period. Photo cover. This is 1 of 1 Wings of Eagles issues by Toth.
