Conan the Barbarian v1 #7, 1971 - A large golden bowl and its contents are too much enticement for a thief like Conan to ignore. Barry Smith's splash opens with a stunning profile of the barbarian, primitive but powerfully drawn (see interior page below). Detailed backgrounds and carefully paced layouts heighten the story's interest and excitement. Conan's silent entry into the palace on page 7 is particularly memorable. While Sal Buscema's inks are competent, Dan Adkin's first seven pages are even better. This story adapts Robert E. Howard's "The God in the Bowl" and was later reprinted in Giant-size Conan the Barbarian #4. This is 7 of 20 Conan the Barbarian issues by Smith. /// Smith gallery / Smith original page
