Journey into Mystery #71 - Steve Ditko art & cover, Jack Kirby art

Steve Ditko
Journey into Mystery v1 #71, 1961 - On an expedition in Egypt, an archeologist and his wife unearth the giant egg of a legendary Roc. Jack Kirby's art plays with size and scale, using two splashes to full effect. Steve Ditko's cover is irrelevant to his tale of an unscrupulous art dealer, but both are skillfully drawn. "The Painting" opens with a foreboding splash (see interior page below), followed by meticulously detailed scenes and layouts. A larger panel heightens the twist at the end. Other artists in this issue include Paul Reinman. This is 24 of 49 Journey Into Mystery issues by Ditko and 22 of 76 Journey Into Mystery issues by Kirby.
