Dark Knight Strikes Again v1 #1, 2001 - Governments become dictatorships in the future, manipulating and imprisoning superheroes for their own purposes. The Batman resurfaces, along with his sidekick Carrie Kelly. Reprising his work almost 20 years earlier, Frank Miller picks up the story three years after the events of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. While the page layouts and sequencing are expertly designed, the drawings themselves devolve into a more cartoonish style. There's also more reliance on the coloring and computer-aided effects, a poor substitute for detail overall. Compared to the previous series, Miller fails to meet his own standards.
