Prison Break #1 - Wally Wood art & cover

Wally Wood
Prison Break v1 #1, 1951 - One of the few prison-themed comics at the time, this premiere issue boasts a gripping Wally Wood cover. The profile view of the gun moll amply displays her figure, but detracts from any illusion of depth. The artist did plenty of "good girl art" covers during this era, but this is not among his better efforts. Wood fares much better with his inside front cover, depicting the issue's contents. A montage of scenes reveal the seamy underworld of crime to young readers. Other artists in this issue include Louis Ravielli. This is number 1 of 2 Prison Break issues with Wood art and/or covers.
