This is War #9 |
This is War v1 #9, 1953 - Hardened by war, a machine gunner shows lack of respect for his fellow soldiers he deems lacking in courage.
Alex Toth's story suggests the tension and anxiety that surfaces even between comrades-in-arms. Starting with a large title panel, the drawing seems far too minimal yet visually arresting. Each panel is carefully drawn, supplemented by John Celardo's inks. Most of the pages are deceptively simple, but designed for maximum communication. Toth's final page is quite frankly the weakest of the bunch. Other artists in this golden age comic include Rocco Mastroserio and Mike Roy. This is 3 of 3
