This is War #9 - Alex Toth art

This is War v1 #9, 1953 - Hardened by war, a machine gunner shows lack of respect for his fellow soldiers he deems lacking in courage. Alex Toth's story suggests the tension and anxiety that surfaces even between comrades-in-arms. Starting with a large title panel, the drawing seems far too minimal yet visually arresting. Each panel is carefully drawn, supplemented by John Celardo's inks. Most of the pages are deceptively simple, but designed for maximum communication. Toth's final page is quite frankly the weakest of the bunch. Other artists in this issue include Rocco Mastroserio and Mike Roy. This is number 3 of 3 This is War issues with Toth art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Toth or This is War issues. See also this blog's Toth checklist.
