Action Comics #616 - Alex Toth cover

Alex Toth
Action Comics (Weekly) v1 #616, 1988 - In one of his later DC works, Alex Toth illustrates Blackhawk in action. The layout is heavily cropped, emphasizing the mass and weight of the figures. Toth's style seems well matched for the character, leading me to think what he could have done with an ongoing Blackhawk series. Other artists in this issue include Rick Burchett, Terry Beatty, John Nyberg, Curt Swan, Murphy Anderson, Chuck Patton, Tom Poston, Randy DuBurke and Pablo Marcos. This is number 1 of 1 Action Comics issues with Toth art and/or covers (not including reprints). See today's posts or more Toth or Action Comics issues. See also this blog's Toth checklist.

  1. Ahhh - makes one fantasize about the possibilities of a Toth-drawn Blackhawk series.

    Would have been something . . .

  2. That would have been something, given Toth's penchant for drawing aircraft.
