Fantastic Four #1 - Jack Kirby art & cover

Jack Kirby
Fantastic Four v1 #1, 1961 - The first appearance of the FF begins with Jack Kirby's iconic cover. Inside, their origin is drawn with adventurous flair with a touch of science fiction. The way three of the characters reveal themselves (in full public view) seems especially innovative. The second tale opens with a large panel (a variant of the cover), announcing the threat of the Mole Man. The sheer variety of Kirby's creature designs add greater scale and interest to many of the scenes. Like much of his work from the 1960s, his visuals tell the stories succinctly but lack the passion of later works. This is number 1 of 116 Fantastic Four issues with Kirby art and/or covers.
