4. 1984 (magazine) v1 #8, 1979 - A lone man tries to lift his tribe up from its primitive and beastly ways, only to be shunned and cast out. The grand scale of Alex Nino's artwork is fully realized in his vast double-page spreads and full page splashes. Within these pages reside smaller, more intimate panels. This evolutionary tale is magnificently detailed in one of the artist's intricate styles. Nino's second tale tells of the last two men on Earth and three cryogenically frozen females. While superbly drawn, it's much less ambitious than his opening story. "Painter's Mountain" was later reprinted in 1994 #23. Other artists in this bronze age science fiction magazine include Rudy Nebres, Frank Thorne and Richard Corben.
