Captain Science #1 - Wally Wood art

Captain Science v1 #1, 1950 - In a secondary feature, an archeologist is transported to another world through an ancient crystal. He's hailed as a savior and tasked with destroying a dictatorial cult. Wally Wood's drawings are certainly primitive, often struggling with faces and figures. His layouts, however, are surprisingly varied. With a keen sense of light and dark, his inking results in boldly dramatic scenes. This is evident in the striking opening panel. Overall though, the distorted faces and poor figure drawing (see interior page below) make this a less than successful effort. This is number 1 of 3 Captain Science issues with Wood art and/or covers.
