Atom and Hawkman #43 - Joe Kubert cover

Joe Kubert
Atom and Hawkman v1 #43, 1969 - On this dark Joe Kubert cover, Hawkman lies badly beaten while the Ghost gallops off in the moonlight. Most of the details reside in the foreground, emphasizing the hero's painful defeat. Kubert's lack of definition in the villain and horse nicely coincides with their spectral state. Note how the Ghost's cape leads the eye down toward a branch, which in turn leads to the title character. Other artists in this issue include Dick Dillin and Sid Greene. This is number 5 of 7 Atom and Hawkman issues with Kubert art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Kubert or Atom and Hawkman issues. See also this blog's Joe Kubert checklist.
