Al Williamson / Frank Frazetta |
2. Weird Fantasy v2 #21, 1953 - A new rocket hauls cargo to other planets in record time, yet crew members seem to die accidentally on each journey. The artwork is dependable and straightforward with very little flourish. Al Williamson's pencils are adequate, but meet expectations. Infinitely better is his cover with Frank Frazetta. Juxtaposing futuristic and primitive figures, Williamson creates a stunning composition with depth and beauty. His excellent drawing is further elevated by Frazetta's exquisite detailing, especially in the foreground. The artists have had other collaborations during the golden age, but none come close to this masterpiece. Other artists in this EC science fiction comic include Will Elder, Jack Kamen, Joe Orlando, John Severin. This is 3 of 3 Weird Fantasy v2 issues by Frazetta and 8 of 8 Weird Fantasy v2 issues by Williamson. /// Top 10 Williamson comics / original cover sketch / Frazetta gallery
