Adventures Into Darkness #9 - Alex Toth art

Adventures Into Darkness v1 #9, 1952 - Set in Barcelona, a Spanish dictator discovers his fiancee's plan to escape with the country's most famous matador. This pre-code horror story could be Alex Toth's bloodiest and most distrubing. Still, most of the artwork is tastefully done with special attention paid to page layout and sequencing. The best scenes occur toward the end, having little or no dialogue to emphasize the climactic imagery. Other artists in this issue include Mike Sekowsky and Nick Cardy. This is number 3 of 3 Adventures Into Darkness issues with Toth art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Toth or Adventures Into Darkness issues. See also this blog's Alex Toth checklist.
