Adventure Comics #157 - Frank Frazetta art

Adventure Comics #157
Adventure Comics v1 #157, 1950 - A small midwestern town has a Camelot-themed celebration, only to be overrun by criminals. In true fashion, the Shining Knight comes to their rescue. On the opening panel, Frank Frazetta squanders an opportunity: gunmen shoot at faux knights against a seemingly unfinished backdrop. Frazetta's minimal approach does little to elicit interest, establish setting or provide additional context. The remaining pages partially offset this, including the sharply pointed panels on page 3 (suggesting immediacy and danger) and the individualized faces of many of the characters. This tale is not among Frazetta's best, but far from his worst. This story was later reprinted in Masterworks Series of Great Comic Book Artists #1. Other stories in this issue feature Superboy, Green Arrow and Johnny Quick. This is 5 of 8 Adventure Comics issues by Frazetta. /// Frazetta gallery
