Tales of Justice #66 - Angelo Torres art, non-attributed Matt Baker art

Tales of Justice #66, 1957 - A jealous circus performer becomes intent on murdering his rival, a lion tamer. Angelo Torres' linework is too fine on certain panels, sometimes losing definition and clarity. He employs these same strokes and screentone patterns for most of the backgrounds, resulting in a monotonous lack of depth. Matt Baker, on the other hand, submits an appropriately frantic tale of a jewel thief on the lam. Non-attributed in most comic book guides, the artist perfectly captures the mood and intensity of a fugitive. The interior page shown above is by Baker. Other artists in this issue include Bob Forgione, Joe Orlando, John Severin, Ed Winiarski and Carl Burgos (cover). This is number 1 of 1 Tales of Justice issues with Baker art and/or covers and number 1 of 1 Tales of Justice issues with Torres art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Baker or Torres issues.
